Summer Camp in the North woods of Minnesota is more than the pristine beauty of lakes, forests and eagles flying overhead. To me, Summer Camp is another home with another family. But camp isn\’t just any family or any home, Swift Nature Camp is a special home.
This summer home is filled with acceptance, love, encouragement, and true, down to earth friends who you will end up calling your camp family. Your counselors act as parents, older siblings, etc. They are great people to look up to. The campers are great friends for life. You may even end up looking at them as siblings. Acceptance is everywhere, no one kicks you out of the cabin because of who you are. Your uniqueness is celebrated. This is the main reason why I love Swift Nature Camp…it\’s so much more than just having fun.
Activities are everywhere at summer camp, there is so much to do. Here are just a few: Archery, Swimming, Fishing, Boating, Tubing, and Riflery. You are never bored and active all day long. The counselors help you get better regardless of that your skill level is. All activities are noncompetitive and so we all support each other, rather than worry who is best.
I\’ll never forget the great out of camp trips we took like the Superior Hiking Trail. What an adventure! I loved being in the of the forest. overlooking Lake Superior. The wildlife was wonderful too we saw hawks, bald eagles, & deer. This is why I love Summer Camp in Minnesota
Life in a cabin is about learning from others and with others. It is becoming a team of understanding. Sure, sometimes we had our fights or minor issues, but almost always they were resolved and we grew closer as a team for them.
I always loved the Nature Center. It is a great place to learn about Nature and the Environment. The Director is always fun and teaches us loads of cool things but its not at all like school. There are all sorts of animals that are fun to observe and hold. One day they even made me feel a little more comfortable when I was homesick.
I plan on going back to Swift Nature Camp for all these reasons. If you come for just one summer, I know you will feel as I do. So, I\’ll see yawl in the North woods of Minnesota this summer!
You want to get set up in an area that is completely free of distractions. It is ideal if the piano is in a room with the door on it so that others can know when you are practicing and remember not to disturb you.
If you cannot fully concentrate during your practice times it will take you at least twice as long to finish your practices and it can get very discouraging to say the least. Let others around you know that you need the time and that you will be available for them when you are finished. If you do it this way, you will find that you have cut your practice time in half.
Full concentration, playing without looking at your fingers and being comfortable are three piano tips that you can use to make your practice more enjoyable and less time-consuming.
You will find your rate of progress increases by using these simple tips, and if you are following an online piano course you will find that you are making much more progress and that your lessons are much more enjoyable
Diversify and Die?
Mutual Funds will give you built in diversification. Some of them invest in entire stock market indexes, others invest into a combination of stocks and bonds, and some invest into other company mutual funds (which are called Fund of Funds, yikes!).
Diversification of your investment money is important. You should never put all of your money into one company. Because you have no control over how that company does or how other investors react to the company´s news, it is best to hedge your dollars by spreading the risk around.
Yet it is possible to over-diversify. Because mutual funds have so much money to invest, they struggle with finding good companies to buy. To keep to the rules of diversifying the portfolio, they cannot invest usually more than 5% of their assets in one single company. This results in lots of dollars being invested into companies you would never consider.
Mutual Funds have to buy lots of mediocre or bad companies because they need to diversify and do something with the billions of dollars they have. It gives the fund shareholders the impression that their money is being invested and the fund managers gladly charge you a healthy management fee.
Active Management is an Expense
The sad fact about Mutual Funds is that most them rarely beat the market. It is estimated that only 1.3% of American Mutual Funds will beat the S&P 500. Mutual Funds are investment products and should not be seen as a complete investing solution.
Dollar Cost Averaging is not a benefit if you are getting poor returns. Believe me, I invested consistently for fifteen years directly into various mutual funds. I bought over $125,000 in mutual funds with the biggest dealer and ended up with an averaged return of a criminal 2.05% a year!
