3 Factors That Make You Hard To Motivate

There will always be periods in your life when you have to perform tasks that you consider unpleasant for one cause or another – working with a co-worker you do not care for, going to your job on Mondays, carrying the trash out, driving to meet the in-laws at the landing field, having supper with the wife’s acquaintances… Doing these things just siphons whatever motivation you have inside you and makes you feel sad, exhausted, miserable, even bothered. But did you realize that there are also things inside you that actually make it tough to feel excited and passionate? Get to learn the factors that make you hard to motivate:

Your mindset
Your mindset is a most that can make you difficult to motivate. This is for the reason that it can severely reduce your understanding of the world and all experiences in general. Your mindset can sometimes be made of growth-inhibiting beliefs, prejudices, biases and values.

If, for instance, you believe that nothing good can come out of your team, you’ll fail to notice that there is a employee there that in fact has the gift for management. If you refuse to believe that you can truly put pen to paper for a illustrious periodical because you’re a person from a small town, you will overlook on an opportunity to expose your genius and garner its rewards.

Your comfort zone
We all have certain boundaries in our heads. These restrictions are things we make a decision on based on our own individual ideas, ethics and standards. Inside these limits, we feel calm in and can pretty much do as we like.

Once we come close to the outer edges, we start to feel uneasiness, nervousness, mortification or irritation. We do not want to go further because we do not like what we do not know or have not experienced. Because we have a dread of the unfamiliar, we’d preferably reside within our comfort zones because we feel secure there.

The difficulty here is that a narrow comfort zone can be a major issue that makes you difficult to motivate. Each time you are presented with a new idea or experience, you verify if it fits into your comfort zone. If it doesn´t, then you simply refuse, no questions asked. This is unfortunate since many of these thoughts and experiences can be enjoyable for you. But you’ll most likely never know because you don’t have the incentive to try them.

Your past experiences
Did you get burned by the stove? That’s most likely why you dislike to cook. Did your past bosses fail to show appreciation for your hard work? That’s perhaps one basis why you do not feel motivated about your job.

Your background – personal, social and professional experiences – has a lot to do with how you settle on things in your life. They can also be factors that make you hard to motivate. If these experiences are negative, they tend to make you more cautious and unsure of yourself since they shape your self-esteem and self-belief.

If, for example, you’ve only been met with rebuff or laughter in your life, it would not be hard to imagine if you do not feel a strong need to excel or to improve yourself. You’ll probably be thinking – ‘So what? Nothing I ever did was good anyway. Why would things change now?’

Unless you deliberately make an effort to identify these past experiences and then decline to let them rule your life, you will always be hard to motivate.
