The Problems with the Roofing Industry are many. The level five companies that offer quotes and install new roofs for homeowners are just that, level five. Mainly consisting of Latino roofing crews to do the installation of the new roofs, they also do several other tasks as well that are not focused on the trade. These roofing crews are paid usually by the hour, or maybe if the homeowner wants, paid by the amount of squares the individual worker lays down in a day. Since most of these workers are not natives from United States of America, they do not speak English, which results in poor judgments, leaky roofs, and ultimately more money forced upon the homeowner to fix their roof a second time.
The roofing industry in itself is a mid-boggling arena of tasks and small jobs that involves not much brain power on the average roofer. It is essentially up to the crew leader to handle these tasks and he or she may be the only one present that speaks English. The problem arises when the Level Five Company has no English speaking Latinos on a homeowner’s roof to install and/or fix a leaky roof. Mass confusion can develop between the homeowner and the Latino Roofing crew.
The first thing that you have to evaluate is level of the company that you are going to hire. This is an example is a Level 1 company profile and they have the most overhead in general. The Level 1 Company starts with a standard phone interview with a secretary and he or she basically asks a script to qualify the perspective buyer. Based on the information received an appointment is set and then the information will be passed to a sales person.
This is key (SALES PERSON) Most sales people have a limited diagnoses capability. The most relevant truth is that these people are sales professionals from all walks of life and really for the most part have no true installation experience other than the Sales training that they have received from the Level 1 Company.
In most cases the sale rep will show up and start with a warm up and a group of open ended questions to create what is known as a needs assessment to gain the clients trust. Then he or she will go outside measure the home and sketch a diagram of the roof as they were trained to do.
This is even more critical for the homeowner to know and the Level 1 Company does not want you to know this. The Sales Person is working on a commissioned pay rate that could range from 5 to 10 workers comp rate.
These problems within the Roofing Industry will not go away on their own. It takes a savvy, business oriented homeowner to fully do all research on the potential roofing company that will be installing the new roof for them. All areas and aspects of the total roof job should be taken into consideration before the homeowner signs a contract with the owner of a roofing company. The more time and effort the homeowner is willing to spend on researching the roofing company they are thinking about hiring, the better off the homeowner will be. The homeowner should never buy on price alone. You really do get what you pay for.
