Increased requirements and training for police officers offers further security to Puerto Vallarta

The TOPMexicoRealEstate NETWORK, “Your Expert Property Finders,” is committed to guiding non-Mexican buyers to a safe property purchase; likewise we want to feel safe and secure in the area where they choose their dream home. Puerto Vallarta real estate currently offers a high level of security, supported by a professional police force with a strong presence in the city. The new chief of police and protection services, Javier Lopez Ruelas, is committed not only to maintaining this level, but also to improving professionalism and training in the force, offering Puerto Vallarta real estate the benefit of protection services that will not be lagging behind.

Lopez has made the commitment that in the municipal police force of the Puerto Vallarta real estate anyone who aspires to take a position as a police officer, traffic officer, fireman, lifeguard or member of Civil Protection, will now meet stricter requirements and pass all training courses with an average of at least 80. Lopez added that “we can count on the professionalism of our forces and the use of technology to provide better service to prevent and combat crime.”

Lopez has also been Director of the Regional Academy since August last year. He drew attention to the fact that under his leadership the first generation of firefighters, lifeguards and civil defence graduated strictly following the guidelines of the campus, applying the National Public Security Plan, guaranteeing that security in the Puerto Vallarta real estate area meet and surpass national standards.

In 2011 Puerto Vallarta will be the host of the Pan American Games for various sports; for this reason several academic preparation programs were implemented. The first generation of traffic police and bike police for sports, who will be trained for two and half months as police on duty and another two and a half months as certified sports paramedics, are currently being trained at the Regional Academy.

Graduates of the bike-police and sports paramedics programs will have the responsibility of monitoring and protecting the sport areas, both in and in national and international events. To date, graduates of the academy already occupy 10 positions as firefighters, 10 as lifeguards, six as Civil Protection, 23 as traffic patrols and 23 as bike police officers, all certified and thoroughly trained.

Lopez is aware that it is less costly to prevent than repair. Stating that there is no room for improvisation, he said the 171 new policemen now are thoroughly prepared in subjects such as English, computers, general knowledge, first aid, human rights, because the force needs a “human profile.” Foreign buyers interested in Puerto Vallarta real estate will benefit from the new ease in communicating with security and emergency workers.

The force is currently preparing a completely transparent traffic patrol program, in which magistrates of any party and human rights staff will be involved. The same is true for “breath-alizer” tests.

With regard to social work, Lopez mentioned that divisions for which he is responsible – police officers, traffic patrols, firefighters and civil protection – participate in the recently launched “Adopt a Beach” program at Boca de Tomates beach, near the mouth of the Ameca River.

Finally, the police chief referred to the implementation of SIMOV (Monitoring and Surveillance System), in which, by means of 48 video cameras staffed 24 hours a day the police force has been able to identify and apprehend criminals immediately .

Lopez gave the example of a case in which a burglar who had robbed a beer warehouse was caught on camera, monitored at police headquarters, and the operation was streamlined, so that 15 the suspect had been caught.
