One of the things that are important for you, as your education process progresses, and particularly in private lending, is that you’re aware of what’s going on around you nationally in private lending.
One of the easiest ways to do that is to do Google Alerts. Obviously you’re aware of Google, but you may not be aware that within Google you can open up your own account. You all should be doing that. Once you open your account, there are all kinds of resources within Google that are tremendous.
Using Google AdWords
You can do Google AdWords. You can obviously buy advertisements on Google. That’s basically their business model. That may not make sense in this case, but you can do that. You can also do Google AdSense. AdSense is the little ad you see on all kinds of websites all over the place and if people click on those ads, to the person sponsoring those ads, they get $0.50, $0.75, $1.00, depending on that ad.
It’s a tremendous way to generate a few bucks. If you have websites, you ought to be doing Google AdSense on your websites. It’s relatively easy once you get to do it. You go into Google and set up your account. There are different shapes and sizes. You can have it vertical or horizontal.
They give you a little bit of code. You take that code, copy it, and then you put it on your website and then the ad is on there. That’s all you have to do. At that point, Google controls it. They change the ads fairly regularly and if somebody clicks on that ad, you get a few dollars into your account. That’s another thing you can do.
Using Google Alerts
The reason I wanted to talk about tonight was Google has something called Google Alerts. You can go in there and you can type in a particular keyword. In this case, let’s say “private lending.” You would put it in quotation marks so it would be exactly “private lending.” Whenever those two words show up on a new website anywhere in the world, they will send you a daily or weekly email, all the new websites with the word “private lending” in them.
You can get it, as I said, daily or weekly. You can scan it fairly quickly for interesting materials. If you see something interesting, it’s a quick way to click over to it. There’ll be a lot of blog posts and things of that nature that you can go see. It’s a great way to find information. It’s a great way to find other people that are doing education on private lending techniques and things.
It’s relatively simple to set it up. Once it’s set up, it’s automated. You don’t have to worry about it again. Google just sends you an email. It’s very easy to do. That way you can really stay abreast of what’s going on. You can do other words. It doesn’t have to be private lending. It can be any topic you want. It’s a quick, easy way to stay on top of your subject matter.
