But where do you start? How do you go about tracking down other people with subscriber lists similar to your own? Once you’ve found them what next?
These are all great questions which I’ll get to in a moment.
Basically what you’re going to do is persuade these people you find to do a JV email exchange (or Adswap) with you. A JV email exchange is where you create a free offer and then you give the other marketer the opportunity to email that free offer to their subscriber list.
Their subscribers join your list. And you do the same for them.
Here are 7 steps to getting started with this incredibly powerful method of listbuilding…
Step 1: First you create a spreadsheet file.
Step 2: Then you go to Google.com and search for other websites in your niche that offer something for free when you subscribe to their newsletter or list.
Step 3: When you find these websites list them in your spreadsheet. Make sure you record their name and website address, if you can find their email include this too.
Step 4: Once you have your list of potential JV email exchange partners, begin contacting the people on this list. If no email address is given on their website subscribe to their newsletter then reply to one of their emails (but delete their original email message to you).
When you contact them you’ll need to explain what a JV email exchange is and give them a screen shot of your own list size, then ask if they’re interested.
Step 5: Follow-up a few days later on anyone who has not replied to you. Sometimes emails get lost or they’re just too busy at the time. A quick follow-up which includes your original message can dramatically increase your success rate.
Step 6: For those that agree to your JV email exchange ask them for a copy of the email they would like you to send to your list and send them a copy of yours.
Step 7: Finally agree on a date and time for your JV email exchange to take place.
Will this get you 10,000 new subscribers? It depends on how many JV partners you find and how big your list is right now.
