Over the years, having traveled up and down the coast, I´ve found a few tricks for getting more out of my power boat without emptying my wallet. Most boaters have favorite anchorages, harbors, or coves. Whether it´s an island along the coast or an anchorage across the bay, most of the time these places have moorings or somewhere to anchor just a dinghy ride away from a beach or marina. A stay at these kinds of destinations is very cost effective. You can remain for a week or more, provided there are no restrictions. You can drive to your departure area and take a dinghy to your boat instead of constantly taking the boat back and forth. Plus, you have the added bonus of alleviating the pressure of getting to your destination at a certain time because of the weather forecast. While going back and forth to my favorite spots is fun, the worry about fuel costs is quelled by planning my trips this way.
There are a few precautions you should take. When you pick your spot to anchor or take a mooring, be sure the correct weight is used to hold your power boat through strong winds. You can use 2 anchors out at 45 degrees; the harbor master can provide you with information about what is good in that area. It´s a good idea to install a bilge alarm system. In the event the alarm goes off when you are not around, anyone within earshot can alert the harbor master. It´s also a good idea to install an alarm system to prevent intrusions. They can be placed on hatchways and doorways. The 12 volt versions offer many options, but you can use battery operated alarms to save money.
Make a point to meet the camp director before you leave if he or she isn\’t your tour guide. Be sure that you feel comfortable with the idea of that director taking care of your child for the summer. Check a few details. Does the director seem to be a hands-on administrator, or does he or she appear to spend more time at the office desk with paperwork? Does the director know the names of most campers? Does the director live on camp property?
If the counselors aren\’t kind, caring, sensitive, imaginative, and skilled, then the facilities and activities don\’t matter. Counselors are directly responsible for making sure your child has a safe and fun summer. Pay careful attention to how the counselors you see interact with campers. During activities, counselors should be supervising and continually attentive to the campers, rather than chatting amongst themselves. Praise should be specific and given to all children in activities, not just the superstars. Make sure that the specialty counselors are not just skilled themselves, but also great teachers who can translate their enthusiasm and skills to children.
If it is at all possible go to a camp and watch it in action…you will learn so much!

Arginine is a non-essential amino acid that thwarts both physical and mental fatigue. It releases both growth hormone and insulin in the body during intense exercise, thereby promoting muscle growth. It is also involved in the metabolism of ammonia and nitrogen transport. Arginine may also increase fat metabolism and lower LDL cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.
The twenty-one standard amino acids are either used to synthesize proteins and other biomolecules or oxidized to urea and carbon dioxide as a source of energy. About 10 are essential. This means that they need to be included in the diet for a complete protein source. You may combine two or more incomplete protein sources such as rice and beans to make a complete source.
In some situations, such as puberty or early development, pregnancy or lactation, injury or simply building muscle, a diet that contains adequate amounts of amino acids (especially the essential ones) is particularly important. If you are considering protein supplements for muscle building, choose one that scores high in several of the standards mentioned above. It is also important to consume lean meats, low-fat dairy products and plants rich in proteins for a complete source of amino acids.
No rest.
When we undergo the stress of physical exercise, our body adapts and becomes more efficient. It is just like learning any new skill; at first it is difficult, but over time it becomes second-nature. However, there are limits as to how much stress the body can tolerate before it breaks down and risks injury. Rest and relax your body before letting it go through stress again. Rest includes getting enough sleep (about 8-9 hours a day) as well as waiting about 24 hours between light training days or 48 hours on heavy training days.
In order to avoid a foot injury, make sure you check the inside of your shoes and socks
