These days, power boats are so loaded with amenities, it´s no wonder we want to escape in them. They are homes away from home, with all the creature comforts – wet bars, icemakers, stereos with remote controls, built-in swim platforms.
Putting the weather aside, the comforts of modern power boats can make you feel so at home that you may not want to return to yours. They are equipped with every amenity you´d find in a home – wet bars, icemakers, stereos with remote controls, built-in swim platforms. Really, what´s to miss? Bills in the mailbox?
Provisioning for a long trip can be a pain, but when I´m done with that, I´m mentally ready to go. I have my routine of checks I do on board before any trip. First, I check the battery connections for tightness (good to do a monthly check). On to the engines to examine for signs of leaky hoses or stains that were not there before, loose belts (evident from black dust), and fuel odor. When I´m all set to go, I´m usually waiting for someone else. But, that´s the time I spend getting myself into a relaxing frame of mind, and catching up on weather reports.
Although guests may not be thrilled with the departure time, I do prefer to leave early in the morning, around 5 am. This reduces the possibility of other complaints, mainly rough waters. This early, the water is usually nice and calm, almost like glass. Later, when the heat warms the land, winds blow onshore. Winds bring waves, making the ride bumpier.
My favorite departure time is earlier than most would prefer. I like to set off around five am, when the waters are serene. Once the sun comes up and the temperatures rise, the warmth coming off the land generates onshore winds, resulting in waves. So, the earlier, the better, and a smoother ride means fewer complaints from the guests.
If the guests are tired when they board, that´s an easy fix. I just give them coffee. They come on board, get the usual tour, and the list of dos and don´ts to avoid any hazards or doing something that may make them unwelcome on the next trip!
Once the guests come aboard, they get my usually dos and don´ts list, and then I´ll make them comfortable with a cup of coffee.
Here are some tips on how you can lose those unwanted pounds the healthy way:
1. Do not starve your self.
The key to a healthier way of losing weight is: Do not diet. Eat right.
You may seem happy and feel that you are losing those unwanted flabs on your belly and thighs by skipping meals. But remember that this would not last long. Your body cannot tolerate having insufficient food to fuel the energy that you use up everyday.
If you get used to skipping one or two meals a day, your stored calories will be used up instead of the energy that should have been provided by your meals. So if you just eat one huge sandwich in one day, it will end up straight to your problem area (i.e. highs, buttocks, hips). It is best to eat 6 small meals per day.
2. Start your day right.
Mothers always say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have a healthy meal in the morning to jump-start your metabolism.
Your food intake after you wake up will be used to burn fat all day long.
3. Eat small, healthy meals frequently. (About 6)
Five small-serving snacks per day are better than three hearty meals. Eating more frequently, and in small servings, can prevent over-eating. This will also increase your metabolism and make calories burn faster. You don´t get hungry you are consistently eating,
4. Decide on how much weight you want to lose.
Keep your goals realistic. In the long run, it is virtually impossible for you to lose 40 pounds in 2 weeks. Have a mindset that you want to eat healthy to stay healthy for the rest of your life.
Once you have decided on a weight loss plan or program, stick to it and make sure that you follow your own set of dieting rules.
5. Drink lots of water. (12 oz. every meal 6)
Your body needs sufficient water to burn fat and keep your cells hydrated and healthy.
6. Avoid too much sugar.
